Milkyway Over Fairplay

I stood in the inky blackness, alone. I set the camera, opened the shutter, and wished. I waited in agony as 13 long seconds went by. Then quietly, in the dark, exclaimed, "Yes!"

You see, I'd been studying night sky photography techniques on and off for about 4 years. I'd practiced when the opportunity arose occasionally. But frankly, the opportunity doesn't arise that often. I mean really, how often are you in a wide open expanse of land, with no obstructions, clear skies, no city lights, have your camera, tripod, and the skills to do it? 4 years. 

The timing was just right. You see, the Milkway has a season. As we turn and move through the solar system, it becomes more clear in the Summer in the United States. The bright core of our arm of the galaxy finally rises about the tree line. 

Something else magical appeared. I was graced, as were you, by the Comet Neowise in July of 2020. From a year so tumultuous, such wonder came. And for probably the only time in my life, I got to photograph and bring into your home, a true and still shooting star. 

I hope you wish upon these stars as often as you need. They're here for you.
